Based on an ISW initiative in 2006, A Celebration of Lakes and Rivers is a project which takes place in watersheds in Québec and other parts of the world.

The objective is to raise public awareness at a local level about water resources and access to water problems in order to create actions plans to be eventually implemented by citizens.

In Québec this task is mainly carried out by young people aged between 17 and 25 in cooperation with the elected representatives and other local resources individuals (experts, professors, etc.). Each one of these groups in Québec is twinned with the young from other parts of the globe who are also involved in water management and sanitation actions. These meetings and exchange of experiences make people aware of similarities and differences among countries thus resulting in mutual aid through international citizen cooperation.

A Celebration of Lakes and Rivers also reminds people that water, source of life and common good of the human kind, knows no borders and it is the key to sustainable and equitable development for all the peoples and countries in the world.
